THEY Representation offers full time and some part-time, unpaid internships to those individuals who express a vested interest in the fashion, advertising, photography and production industries. A passion to professionally pursue these fields is essential. While working at THEY, interns will gain direct exposure to all aspects necessary of artist & photographer management, bookings, branding, and producing of various photo shoots, among other projects. Interns will also be responsible for the management and running of the photo rental and event spaces, Sugar Studios (www.sugarstudios.com), the sister company to THEY Rep, located in the same offices and location as the THEY offices. Interns will primarily work as the assistant to Gina Hole, but they will also assist in all aspects involved within the agency including assisting the booking agent, studio manager, and marketing and promotions manager. THEY places a high priority in ensuring that the internship proves to be an invaluable learning experience for the intern.
Interns become an integral part of our office and will handle (after a probationary period) major business tasks within the agency. Interns must also sign a strict confidentiality agreement upon commencing their time at THEY/Sugar. The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment is fundamental. Interns should be detail oriented and possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Good phone manners are a must! Interns must also be proficient on PC’s and have a strong working knowledge of Excel worksheets/programs.
Full-time internships run from Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 5:30pm, for a minimum of two months (Stat holidays office is closed). We feel strongly that the full time internship program is much more effective for the individual, as they are able to produce and book projects from start to finish, which requires daily attention. The two month time frame would start on a Monday and end on a Friday, whenever the date of the next position becomes available. As well we require 2 days of training prior to your start date, by the staff and the previous intern (who by then has a wealth of knowledge to pass on!) on the Thursday & Friday prior to the Monday start date. In some cases the internship could go slightly longer or shorter than the projected 2 months, as it must end on a Friday for training, and it depends on the those particular calendar months.
To apply for an internship at THEY Rep/Sugar Studios, please email your updated résumé as well as a cover letter to production@THEYrep.com stating why you would like an internship at THEY Rep. Please make sure you are available for the exact dates of the internship program, no days off will be allowed except weekends & Stat holidays. You will receive a phone interview and then a possible in-person interview along with other applicants.
TESTIMONIALS FROM PAST INTERNS:
ALYSSA KWAN | Previous Intern and THEY Rep & Sugar Studios’ Marketing & Promotions Manager:
“Interning at THEY Rep has allowed me to gain invaluable insight into the back end of the fashion & advertising industries. It is with interning here that has pointed me in the direction of starting my own social media company.”
JAIME JACQUARD-SOWA | Recent intern graduate and now Assistant Producer & Sugar Studios’ Weekend Manager
“The knowledge I gained from this internship was invaluable and I will continue to use everything I learned for years to come. The things I learned at THEY isn’t something that can be taught in a classroom and I would highly recommend it to anyone serious about this industry. It was a privilege to be a part of the THEY Rep team and to work with the best artists and photographers in Vancouver.”
PATRICIA LAGMAY | Fashion Stylist & former intern, then Booking Agent, then Marketing & Promotions Manager for THEY Rep & Sugar Studios:
“I am still in awe of how lucky I am to have found a place at THEY Rep. It is with copious amounts of pleasure that I get to work with the best photographers and artists in Vancouver, and the 30-year industry veteran that is Gina Hole.
The only way to describe this experience is to call it the best (and cheapest!) schooling I could ever sign up for.”
SARAH DANNIELS | Fashion Stylist:
“The amount of industry knowledge I gained while interning at THEY Rep was priceless and unmeasurable. Not only did I learn how the agency worked, but I was privileged enough to also complete artist and studio bookings. While interning, I acted as a production assistant for an InStyle Magazine photo shoot, assisted the amazing fashion stylist Leila Bani and got to meet many of Vancouver’s top artists and photographers.”
PAULINE KAO | Photographer’s Assistant & previous London studio manager:
“The internship at THEY Rep’s agency was truly an amazing and worthwhile experience. Gina provided me with rich information about her business and most interestingly, her role as a photographer’s agent. I also felt privileged to be involved in some of the major shoot productions, doing the internship at THEY Rep has indeed helped me learn fully about commercial photography and grow in my professionalism.”
