NORMA HILL-PATTON MAKEUP & HAIR : BIO

Born in London, England, Norma Hill-Patton learned her craft at the world-renowned BBC TV, which was famous for holding the highest of industry standards worldwide. Here Norma was trained extensively not just in makeup, but also in hair styling, prosthetics production and application, and wig-making. Norma worked for 11 years on major BBC productions such as THE CLEOPATRAS, I, CLAUDIUS, and FRENCH AND SAUNDERS, the last two of which both received a British Academy Award for Make-up.
Norma then went on to a freelance career and found herself in constant demand for commercials, photo shoots, rock videos, and feature films. Having worked in Africa on many shoots, she earned the affectionate label of the “African Queen”, working on iconic movies such as, OUT OF AFRICA, MISTER JOHNSON, and A FAR OFF PLACE, to name a few.

Norma moved to Vancouver, Canada in 1991 and continues to work in feature films. She has established a career as one of the most sought after Makeup Designers in the film industry. Some of the most recognizable films she has worked on recently are X-MEN 2 and 3, X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, CATWOMAN, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, and the second movie in the immensely popular Twilight series, NEW MOON, where she designed the show’s look, along with the beauty-vampire makeup on super-stars ROBERT PATTINSON and DAKOTA FANNING.

Since 2003, Norma has had the very real privilege of working with, and continues to be, the Personal Makeup Artist to actress HALLE BERRY. Norma received the CNOMA Award for her makeup work with Halle on the movie CATWOMAN. Norma has also worked with some of Hollywood’s most iconic movie stars, including HILARY SWANK, AL PACINO, SIR PAUL McCARTNEY, SIR BEN KINGSLEY, KRISTEN SCOTT-THOMAS, REESE WITHERSPOON, ANNA PAQUIN, MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY, GARY OLDMAN, and HUGH JACKMAN, among many others.

Norma is presently on the advisory board for the much acclaimed Vancouver Film School, in Vancouver, BC. She is also a regular guest lecturer at various film colleges. She has been invited to headline the panel at the November 2009 IMATS (International Makeup Artist Trade Show) in Toronto, Canada, where she will be discussing the looks she created for the just-released movie, NEW MOON.
Norma has been married to writer Richard Patton for 16 years and has a multi-talented 14-year-old musician son Spencer.
